Welcome to the HCS English Language Development Department (ELD)!

Congratulations on your pursuit in learning English as a second language, or for many of you, as a third or fourth language. According to one almanac, English is spoken by over 470 million people across the globe, and it is the official language of over 45 countries. In many countries, knowing how to speak and write English increases your chances of getting a higher-paying job. Whether it is for these reasons or others, your desire to study the English language is a worthwhile one.

Our program is unique in the following ways:

  • All ELD students are matriculated immediately and enrolled in regular middle school or high school courses along with English language classes.
  • Current U.S. immigration regulations allow students who study at a private high school to remain longer in the United States than at a public high school. Thus, a student can potentially complete all four years of high school study at our school and receive an American high school diploma.
  • The program includes three planned, day-long social outings in Southern California, to help experience American culture.
  • Courses are taught by highly qualified teachers and ESL specialists.
    Students have access to a wide variety of sports, music, and art programs available at our school.
  • Our location alone makes for a unique experience. We are located in beautiful Thousand Oaks, approximately an hour’s drive from Disneyland and Universal Studios, and scenic beaches like Malibu and Santa Barbara. It’s a beautiful suburban environment, fully accessible to many of the cultural opportunities of Southern California.
  • Home stay programs are available through American Home Life, a Christian organization that places students in solid Christian homes with families that will provide a caring, supportive environment. You may find out more about that program through their web page at: www.amhomelife.org.
  • The average HCS student tests two years ahead of the national average.
  • HCS is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students by issuing I-20 forms in grades 3 through 11. Hilcrest does not accept new students in their senior year of highschool (12th grade).
  • Students can enter the school year at any time. Our school year runs from late August to early June. TOEFL preparation courses are offered for students who plan on continuing their education in the American university system. This course is offered at no additional fee to our ELD students.

Felicitaciones por su interes en aprender el idioma Ingles como segunda, o para muchos, tercera o cuarta lengua. De acuerdo a estadisticas, el Ingles se habla por mas de 470 millones de personas alrededor del mundo, y es la lengua official de mas de 45 paises. En muchos paises, el saber hablar y escribir Ingles aumenta las posibilidades de obtener un mejor trabajo. Sea por esta u otras razones, su deseo de estudiar Ingles es muy beneficioso. Nuestro programa es unico en las siguientes maneras:

  • Todos los estudiantes del programa seran matriculados inmediatamente e inscritos a las clases normales de bachillerato, ademas de sus clases adicionales de Ingles.
  • Las regulaciones actuales de inmigracion permiten a los estudiantes que estudian en una escuela privada, permanecer mas tiempo en los Estados Unidos, que aquellos que asisten a escuelas publicas. Por lo tanto, un estudiante podria completar todo su bachillerato en nuestro colegio y recibir un diploma Americano.
  • Las clases seran dictadas por profesionales altamente calificados, y profesores especialistas en ESL.
    El programa incluye 3 salidas extracurriculares para que los alumnos tengan una experiencia completa de la cultura regional.
  • Los estudiantes tienen acceso a una gran variedad de actividades deportivas, musicales, y artisticas, ademas de otras extracurriculares.
  • Nuestra ubicacion hace que esta experiencia sea unica. Estamos situados en la hermosa ciudad de Thousand Oaks, aproximadamente a una hora de Disneyland y Universal Studios, y de famosas playas como Malibu y Santa Barbara. Este espectacular suburbio en el sur de California esta lleno de multiples oportunidades culturales.
  • Tienen la opcion de que la estadia sea a traves de una organizacion llamada American Home life, donde ubican a los estudiantes en hogares Cristianos con familias que brindan un ambiente calido y hogareno.   • El estudiante de HCS mantiene un promedio de estado 2 años por encima de su nivel.
  • HCS esta autorizado bajo ley federal a aceptar a estudiantes no-imigrantes con el formato I-20.
  • Los estudiantes pueden ingresar en cualquier momento durante el año, y seran ubicados en el nivel apropiado en ese momento. Nuestro calendario escolar va desde finales de agosto hasta principios de junio.
  • Cursos preparativos para el TOEFL seran ofrecidos para aquellos estudiantes que planean continuar su educacion en una Universidad Americana. Este curso no tiene ningun costo adicional para los estudiantes del programa ELD.

  • Completed application with $100.00 non-refundable processing fee
  • Current and previous year’s translated transcripts or report card
  • Translated birth certificate or birth document.
  • Photocopy of Valid passport
  • Recent bank statement of parents or legal guardians, as proof of funds
  • SLEP Test with minimum score of 52
  • Medical Insurance
  • Church Reference Form

  • Formulario de aplicacion con $100.oo no reembolsables,para los costos de procesamiento.
  • Reporte de notas del presente curso y del ano pasado.
  • Certificado de nacimiento traducido al Ingles.
  • Fotocopia del pasaporte
  • Estracto bancario reciente de los padres, como prueba de fondos.
  • Dos cartas de referencia de profesores en Ingles.
  • Examen SLEP con puntaje minimo de 52

Our ELD Program is Now Enrolling for the 2010-2011 School Term

Registration is now open for new families for the 2010-2011 school term.  English Language Development Program students can enter the school year at any time. Our school year runs from late August to early June. TOEFL preparation courses are offered for students who plan on continuing their education in the American university system.
